The Vancouver Canucks have a lot of salary cap space, and they also have a big scoring hole with the assumed departure of winger Brock Boeser.
But the Canucks are closing in on a trade to help improve their roster.
According to The Athletic and The Province, it's believed that the Canucks have made a formal trade offer to the Minnesota Wild for young center Marco Rossi.
The reports indicate that the return may include the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Rossi would be a great pickup for Vancouver.
The 5-foot-9 Austrian will turn 24 in September, and he was the No. 9 overall pick in 2020.
Rossi is coming off a career year. He had 24 goals and 36 assists for 60 points.

It was a breakout season on the powerplay for Rossi, too, as he put up seven man-up goals and nine assists.
Rossi also improved his faceoff percentage, blocks and hits from the season before.
The Canucks have the chance to plug Rossi into their second line at even strength, and they'd be hoping to get the prime years of his career to happen in Vancouver.
It's not clear what it might take to get a deal over the line, but the Canucks appear to be giving it a real go.
