Canadiens gave draft prospects Chase Reid, Caleb Malhotra a bizarre test during interviews at NHL Combine

There's a history of players being given weird tests in pre-draft interviews.

The Montreal Canadiens have joined the party with an odd exercise for the likes of Chase Reid and Caleb Malhotra this week at the NHL Draft Combine.

The Habs asked prospects to throw a puck into the garbage can, and if they missed, they wouldn't draft them.

Would the players go close and have an easy make?

Reid and Malhotra both went to the far part of the room, but missed.

They were up for the challenge, but they couldn't quite cash in.

That must tell the Canadiens something, right?

Chase Reid said the Habs asked prospects at the NHL Combine to try and throw a puck into a garbage can.

They could throw from anywhere in the room, and, if they missed, MTL wouldn't draft them.

Pressure test, if you may.

The irony to this story is that the Canadiens pick No. 28 overall in the first round.

Reid and Malhotra will both be gone in the top-10, maybe the top-5. Neither will join the Habs.

But in sharing this story, Reid showed just a little bit of what he and Malhotra are about. Maybe the Canadiens will remember that someday if they ever pursue one of these two talents at a later date.
