Canadiens facing a clear Cole Caufield problem

The Montreal Canadiens have work to do.

They fell behind in their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Buffalo Sabres by losing Game 1, 4-2.

They're also facing an issue: Cole Caufield hasn't done much of anything in the playoffs.

Caufield scored 50 goals in the regular season.

He has yet to record a point at even-strength in the postseason.

Juraj Slafkovsky also doesn't have a point at even strength in the playoffs.

The feeling entering the Buffalo series was that Montreal would be most dangerous on the power play, and that proved in Game 1. Slafkovsky sliced through the Sabres' defense before dishing smoothly to a Nick Suzuki tap-in.

But at even strength, that top Canadiens line didn't create a whole lot of danger.

Caufield made all kinds of Montreal history this season as a young player getting to that incredible goal milestone.

If he doesn't turn it up soon in the playoffs, though, the season will be ending sooner than the Canadiens want.
