Canadiens' draft pick is grandson of all-time great NHL Hall of Famer

The Montreal Canadiens used the No. 189 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft on Parker Trottier.

He's the grandson of all-time great Bryan Trottier.

That's certainly not a bad pedigree. It'll be a lot for Parker to try and live up to, though.

Parker has spent the past two seasons playing for the U.S. National Development Team. In 2025-26, he played in 24 games and had eight goals with six assists (14 points).

He's an 18-year old left wing from Edina, Minnesota, with a lefty shot. He measures at 6-foot-1 and 184 pounds.

Bryan was also a left-shot, but a center.

The grandfather was the No. 22 overall pick in the 1974 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders.

He went on to play 15 of his 18 NHL seasons with the Islanders, and he also had three years with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Hall of Famer won six Stanley Cups. He played 1,279 games, scored 524 goals and dished out 901 assists. That's 1,425 points.

His brother, Rocky, also played 38 NHL games.

There are clearly a lot of hockey genes in this family, but that's a lot for Parker to live up to.

His late draft status suggests there isn't a ton of certainty about Parker's future, but all a player needs is a chance. He's got that now that Montreal has chosen him, and it'll be up to Parker to live up to the family name.
