Canada's Olympic goalie plan already includes a Jordan Binnington-sized starting twist

Jon Cooper is keeping his lips sealed.

The Olympic men's hockey coach for Team Canada won't reveal who the starting goalie will be when the Canadians begin their tournament on Thursday.

He did share one thing, though: Canada will start a different goalie in its first game and its second game.

From there, then they'll settle in to a stalwart.

He did confirm there would be two different guys in net for the first two games. Not a shock https://t.co/Lbo5Oz9QEp

Canada opens play Thursday against Czechia.

They're right back at it on Friday against Switzerland.

Much like an NHL team, they won't call on a goalie to go back-to-back and will instead rely on depth.

Cooper's options start with the Blues' Jordan Binnington, who many fans don't want to see in net but who did hold down the goal during the 4 Nations Face Off.

The other choices: Darcy Kuemper and Logan Thompson.

When Canada's practices earlier this week were open to the media, Binnington got the most time alone in his own net. That would suggest him as the nominal starter.

Cooper might also have to decide which of the two opponents he deems tougher, which could then determine in which spot he uses the guy he deems to be the first-stringer.

Relative to the rest of Canada's roster, there will be some uncertainty about the best option in goal. It's not their biggest strength, and someone is going to have to step up to try and pursue gold.
