National Defence Minister David McGuinty announced the funding on Wednesday in Ingersoll, Ontario, where IMT Precision will receive as much as $305.4 million to establish a new facility that will produce empty metal shells.

The government says the facility will create at least 75 full-time jobs, and as many as 400 jobs at full production.

The government has also reached three contribution agreements with General Dynamics Corp. in Quebec. That money will help construct a nitrocellulose facility and support production of 155mm high-explosive projectiles.

“We are building critical capabilities here at home, reducing reliance on foreign sources, and providing the Canadian Armed Forces with dependable access to the materiel they need,” McGuinty said in a statement.

The funding is being provided under the Canadian Defence Industry Resilience Program, which was rolled out this year as part of the government’s defence industrial strategy.
