Cameron Brink recovery timeline: What to know about Sparks star's return from torn ACL, meniscus

12 hours ago 1

The Sparks are bringing back one of their own as they gear up for the stretch run.

Cameron Brink, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, is nearing a return from the torn ACL and meniscus she suffered 13 months ago. The Stanford alum played just 15 games in her rookie season, but in those matchups, she offered a glimpse of her captivating skillset, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

Los Angeles is hopeful her attributes aid in securing their postseason hopes. At 11-14, the Sparks are one spot off the Western Conference cellar. However, they're also within striking distance of the Aces for the final postseason berth. If Brink looks anything like the player she did before her injury, that gap could turn to ashes before long.

With that, here's what you need to know about Brink's journey back to the court.

Cameron Brink recovery timeline

Brink went down with a torn ACL in her left knee about midway through last season, crumbling to the floor after taking a bump while driving to the basket in a June 18 matchup with the Sun. Brink, who also suffered a torn meniscus on the play, was due to take part in the 2024 Summer Olympics as a part of Team USA's 3-on-3 team. Without her, the Americans settled for bronze.

A gifted frontcourt defender with budding offensive skills, Brink spent much of her time away attempting to add muscle atop her 6-4 frame. She returned to on-court drills earlier in the summer but only recently was cleared to participate in full-contact practices.

During the 2025 WNBA Draft, ESPN's Holly Rowe reported that Brink was aiming for a pre-All-Star Break return. That prediction proved a touch too optimistic, but Brink remains confident that she can make an impact on both ends of the floor for a Los Angeles side that sits just 1.5 games out of a playoff spot.

"I've put in a lot of hard work," Brink said, per CBS Sports. "I feel like what people usually see is me living my life normally, but people don't see the hours and hours that I put in the gym with my trainers, amazing training staff. I've been working my (behind) off, so I definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel for sure."

Brink was removed from the injury report ahead of her side's matchup with Las Vegas on Tuesday, per RotoWire. She was recently upgraded to "doubtful" ahead of Los Angeles' July 25 clash with the Liberty — the first time she was designated as anything other than "out" since her malady.

"It means the world," Brink told the Long Beach Press-Telegram's John W. Davis when asked about the prospect of her impending return. "I am very excited, very humbled by this experience. It's no easy thing to come back from."
