Cam Newton pouring cold water on Giants despite offseason frenzy: ‘Giant egos’

The Giants signed the best 2019 wide receiver corps in the NFL. The problem… according to Cam Newton, is it’s 2026.

Former NFL MVP warned the NFC East side in the latest episode of “4th&1” about their team full of egos.

On Monday, the Giants signed Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios. Three receivers who have been in the news for reasons other than football throughout their career.

“See, this team ain’t missing no ego… Cuz it sounds like a team full of giant egos,” Newton said. “A team full of giant celebration.”

Beckham returns to the Giants after eight years bouncing around between teams. He most recently played for the Miami Dolphins in 2024.

The flashy receiver’s last stint in New York was memorable. Beckham recorded four 1000-yard seasons, only failing to hit the mark once due to a fractured left ankle in Week 4.

“Odell ain’t going to the New York football Giants just to be a support player,” Newton said. “He still has vision to be the best receiver in the game.”

Along with Beckham, Smith-Schuster brings exciting potential to MetLife Stadium. The former Chief had 2,343 yards in his first two seasons but hasn’t returned to those heights.

Smith-Schuster hasn’t hit the 400-yard mark since 2022 in his first season with the Chiefs.

The new Giant made headlines early in his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers for dancing on opponents’ logos pregame. His TikTok antics raised criticism from teammates such as Alejandro Villanueva.

Berrios, who has 1,360 yards and six touchdowns in seven years of NFL play, gained popularity since dating social media personality Alix Earle.

The two broke up in December 2025.

Newton also mentioned the Giants could face injury issues again after assembling a team with a history of injuries.

“Because last time I checked Juju, Odell, Malik, Cam Skattebo, Jaxson Dart… What do they all have in common baby?” Newton said, referring to injuries.

This, for the most part, is accurate.

Sophomore quarterback Jaxon Dart was evaluated for a concussion in 50% of the games he played in his rookie season, per Sleeper, and missed two games with one.

Malik Nabers, Skattebo, Beckham, and Smith-Schuster have all dealt with long-term injuries that sidelined them for seasons.

Skattebo and Nabers both missed time last year.

The former Arizona State running back dislocated his right ankle in a Week 8 loss to the Eagles and missed the rest of the season.

He is expected to be back by Week 1, and showed off his healthy ankle with a backflip in Brian Burns’ celebrity softball charity event.

Nabers also suffered a season-ending injury, tearing his ACL and meniscus. Originally slated to be back around training camp, he needed a second procedure, and his return timetable is unknown.
