Callaway apologizes for commercial that depicted male golfer tossing female golfer to ground

Callaway apologized for releasing a commercial with Good Good Golf that depicted a male golfer tackling a female golfer to prevent her from touching his driver. The commercial was meant to promote Callaway and Good Good's new driver collaboration, but the ad was widely criticized as soon as it was released.

"Last week, Good Good Golf and Callaway posted a video to promote a co-branded driver," Callaway Golf CEO Chip Brewer said. "While the video was produced by Good Good, it was approved by Callaway prior to posting. That approval should never have happened. Mistakes were made, and we are taking the matter very seriously."

Brewer mentioned that the company is opening an investigation to determine how the commercial was approved and stressed that the commercial doesn't align with Callaway's values.

"As we deal with the consequences of our mistake and complete our investigations, I want to make it clear that we sincerely apologize for the video. The content was inappropriate and does not reflect our values. To be clear: We are unequivocally against discrimination, domestic violence or threatening behavior of any kind."

Callaway commercial that prompted apology

Callaway and Good Good Golf collaborated to create a new driver for the fall, but the commercial to promote the driver was what caused the controversy. The ad was meant to parody a horror movie, but the presence of a male golfer tackling a female golfer soured the entire video.

The full Good Good driver video was actually 60 seconds long, and it seems like it was meant to be some sort of horror-movie spoof? It’s still viewable in some posts. (Here’s most of it:) pic.twitter.com/UBhUmKBQZY
