Call Her Daddy (Or Mommy): The 7 Kinkiest Age-Gap Romances On Streaming

1 hour ago 2

Age-gap romances are a trope that film and television writers have been exploring more and more over the past couple of years. Whether it’s Nicole Kidman in Babygirl or Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, these on-screen romances know how to make a splash in the cultural zeitgeist. The conversation, while never fully dimmed, was reignited over the past month with the release of Netflix’s new dating show, Age of Attraction, which forced a group of singles to find love and commit to each other before ever revealing their ages.

Age of Attraction’s married co-hosts Nick Viall and Natalie Joy, who share an 18-year age difference, understand that age-gap romances are a “fascinating topic” for people, especially in an era that makes dating feel difficult. “I think in 2026, people are having a hard time dating,” Viall told DECIDER over a Zoom call. “People feel lonely, they’re having a hard time making connections. Now more than ever, we really are prioritizing compatibility. Do we have things in common? When you start listing that off, age becomes less and less of a thing we care about.”

With that in mind—and in the spirit of Netflix airing its season finale for Age of Attraction earlier this week—we are going to be counting down the hottest age-gap romances of the past decade in both television and film. As Gabby Windey would say, keep reading, perverts!

  1. Babygirl (2024)

We all should’ve known Nicole Kidman’s marriage with Keith Urban was heading down the drain when she began starring in all of these erotic movies with much younger men. In Babygirl, Kidman plays a powerful CEO who starts a scandalous love affair with her much younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson. This provocative flick sparked a lot of conversation about a sexy hotel room scene between the two actors.

  2. The Idea of You (2024)

Harry Styles fan-fic? Count us in! In this steamy romance, based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name and currently streaming on Prime Video, Anne Hathaway’s Solène falls in love with Nicholas Galitzine‘s Hayes, a hunky boy-band singer nearly 20 years her junior. The two engage in a passionate romance, hidden by clandestine meetings and hotel-room escapades as they keep their relationship a secret from Soléne’s daughter and the rest of the world.

  3. A Family Affair (2024)

2024 was a big year for the older woman/younger man trope — and Nicole Kidman sure did capitalize on the interest. A few months before Babygirl hit theaters, Kidman starred opposite Zac Efron, who is 20 years younger than her, in the Netflix rom-com, A Family Affair. In the movie, Kidman plays a widowed mother who strikes up a romance with her daughter’s boss, who also happens to be a famous and self-absorbed Hollywood actor.

  4. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)

Leave it to Shonda Rhimes to make an age-gap relationship feel romantic. In Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, viewers learn a lot more about Lady Danbury’s background. As a young girl, Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas) was betrothed to Lord Herman Danbury, who was decades older than her. Despite her unhappiness, she continued, for years, to give into his sexual advances, often staring at the ceiling and bathing immediately afterward. Following his death, Lady Danbury found herself falling for another man who was much older than her. The dowager struck up a brief, albeit consented, romance with Lord Ledger, the father of Violet Bridgerton. In Episode 5 of the spinoff series, the two consummated their relationship, with Lady Danbury taking back control by getting on top of Lord Ledger.

  5. Call Me By Your Name (2017)

Call Me By Your Name, which is available to rent or buy on digital platforms, is one of the most famous and commercially successful age-gap romance movies of the last decade. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the 2017 coming-of-age film follows the romance between 17-year-old Elio (Timothee Chalamet) and 24-year-old Oliver (Armie Hammer). The film received a standing ovation at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and, to this day, holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While Call Me By Your Name has been widely praised, and even earned a Best Picture nomination at the 2018 Academy Awards, some critics have also been skeptical of the fact that Elio was underage.

  6. House of the Dragon (2022)

If you can look past the incest, you can look past the age gap. In HBO Max’s House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emily D’Arcy) shares several steamy intimate with her uncle-turned-husband, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), including one in which he takes her to a brothel to lecture her about sex in Season 1. Again, the age difference is hardly the most questionable thing about this relationship, but those Game of Thrones and House of the Dragons fans can’t get enough of it.

  7. Miller’s Girl (2024)

Miller’s Girl drew in a lot of criticism when it first premiered back in 2024. The erotic thriller stars Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman as characters whose student-professor dynamic takes a sexual turn after a creative writing assignment. When the film was first released, a clip of Freeman bending Ortega over a bend went viral, with social media users calling out their 31-year age difference.
