Since the first snap of the Super Bowl in 1967, a staggering 529 players with California roots have crossed the sport’s brightest stage — more than any other state, and it’s not particularly close. Six decades of Lombardi Trophies, dynasties, heartbreaks, and history all share a common thread: somewhere along the way, a California kid was involved.

Thirteen players on the combined Patriots and Seahawks rosters trace their beginnings back to the Golden State. Different eras. Different systems. Same origin story. California continues to be football’s most reliable exporter of NFL talent.

The numbers come from a deep dive by BetMGM, which analyzed the birthplaces of more than 4,300 Super Bowl participants from 1967 through 2024 using long-standing databases like Pro Football Reference and StatsCrew.
