A Texas man has been charged with felony stalking for continued harassment of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, according to court documents obtained by Fox 59 Indianapolis.
Michael Thomas Lewis, 55, of Denton, Texas, was arrested in Indianapolis on Sunday, Jan. 12. He faces the Level 5 felony charge of stalking threatening sexual battery or death.
Clark expressed concerns to local police due to the frequency and subject matter of Lewis' messages. As a result, Clark shared that she would often alter her appearance in public and became increasingly fearful upon learning Lewis was in Indianapolis.
Many of Lewis' messages were sexually explicit or violent in nature, causing the FBI to get involved in the investigation. Per court documents, the FBI traced recent messages from Lewis and discovered he was in Indianapolis. That discovery ultimately led to Lewis' arrest.
Lewis' harassment included a recent declaration to Clark that he had, “Been driving around your house 3x a day," before saying, "But don’t call the law just yet.”
In other messages, Lewis told Clark that "I'm getting tickets" and "I'm sitting behind the bench," telling the 2024 Rookie of the Year that he planned to attend Fever home and away games.
Lewis' harassment on X (formerly Twitter) came in the form of private messages and more disturbing posts frequently published on his public timeline.
When confronted by law enforcement, Lewis claimed that his messages to Clark were an imagination, a fantasy-type thing and a joke. He also claimed the frequency of his posts mentioning Clark was “just the same reason everybody makes posts.”
Lewis faces up to six years in prison on a Level 5 felony if found guilty of these charges.
