Why was Caitlin Clark on Sunday night basketball?

Clark appeared on NBC's Lakers-Knicks broadcast on Sunday night, talking shop with the "Sunday Night Basketball" cast -- Maria Taylor, Carmelo Anthony and Reggie Miller. The Fever supernova offered insight into Sunday's game, taking to the booth as a "special contributor."

"I’m really excited to be part of the Basketball Night in America crew this season. Carmelo, Vince, and Tracy are legends of the game, and Maria is a true professional," Clark said in a statement. "It will be really fun to join them a few times this season."

What did Caitlin Clark say about WNBA lockout negotiations?

In addition to analyzing Los Angeles' clash with New York, Clark also shared her view on the WNBPA's collective bargaining negotiations with the WNBA. The league and its players union have been locked in a stalemate since their previous CBA expired on Jan. 9.

An in-person meeting between both parties is slated to take place on Monday. Speaking with her cast-mates, Clark expressed faith in the union's ability to strike a deal that offers players just rewards for their production on- and off-the-floor.

“I think all of women's sports, I think this is one of the biggest moments we've ever had. I feel very confident that we're going to get something done.”

“Honestly I don’t think it’s just a big moment for the WNBA, I think all of women’s sports, I think this is one of the biggest moments we’ve ever had,” Caitlin Clark said. “So I feel very confident that we’re going to get something done, and that’s because we’re in this moment because of the product we’ve put on the floor. So we need to be able to continue to do that.”

“I know everybody’s working really hard in this meeting tomorrow that’s super important, and I truly do believe we’re going to get something done here in the next couple weeks, but like you said, there’s a lot of boxes that we still need to check. We’ve added two new teams, there’s going to be more players than ever, and then we have to get into free agency, then have a normal draft, as well. There’s a lot of things left to do, but I do feel confident that both sides are going to reach a deal here soon.”

Clark endured a sour 2025 campaign, playing just 13 games after sustaining various injuries. She's lurked in the shadows for much of the past few months. But Indiana's talisman has high hopes in 2026. She told Taylor and Co. that she's hoping to incorporate elements of Luka Doncic's game into her own in the coming season.
