WNBA players were physical with Caitlin Clark throughout her rookie season with the Indiana Fever.
It wasn't just about sending a message. Clark is also so skilled that sometimes the only way to slow her down is to get into her space.
But on at least one occasion, the contact was totally unnecessary.
That's when Chicago's Chennedy Carter gave Clark an entirely out-of-life hip check after a play was over.
Chennedy Carter drills a jumper then lays a body check on Caitlin Clark that should get her a look from the Blackhawks!

At the time, Carter was given a flagrant foul.
But now, she's speaking out on a recent podcast to say she didn't really think any punishment was deserved for the play.
"It happens in basketball," Carter said. "And it's just one of those things. So yeah, that's kind of what happened, and then it spiraled out of control... But yeah, it was a nice little tap. I'm here. Not to harm her or anything."
Carter then made sure to give herself a little compliment.
"It's just one of those things," Carter said. "I'm a great player, she's a great player, it looks a certain way. Everybody is going to have their views on it. But my personal view is, I don't have anything against her. She's a great player, and so am I."
Clark certainly couldn't have been happy with it. She definitely is a fan of voicing her displeasure, at least on the court.
Carter, still a free agent, definitely won't be signing with the Fever anytime soon.
