Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese stats have traded places in recent cold, hot streaks

You've already read the headline, but let's take part in this exercise anyway.

These are stats from two players' last five WNBA games. One is Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark. The other is Chicago Sky's Angel Reese. Which is which?

Player 1:

  • 15.6 points per game
  • 45.8 FG%
  • 2.4 turnovers per game

Player 2:

  • 17.6 points per game
  • 38.0 FG%
  • 6.6 turnovers per game

Maybe the turnovers make it obvious, but the field goal percentage is backward from these two have done in their WNBA careers before this relative to one another.

Player 1 is Reese, and Player 2 is Clark.

If we add rebounds in, Reese is averaging 14.4 in the span, compared to 4.2 for Clark. Clark is putting up 8.6 assists per game in the stretch, compared to 4.2 for Reese.

Clearly, they're very different player types. But they're moving in opposite directions.

Before this improved stretch, Reese had been shooting 37.8% from the floor on the season. And before the rough stretch, Clark had been a slightly better 40.3%, on a much-tougher shot diet.

Clark is out injured right now, while Reese is playing some of her best WNBA basketball.

The comparisons between these two often take on the wrong energy, but these stats are too fascinating to overlook. Maybe they swing back in the other directions soon enough, but right now, Reese is getting the better of the discourse.
