Caitlin Clark and LeBron James share surprising bucket-list dream away from basketball

1 hour ago 3

For all the basketball conversations that surround Caitlin Clark and LeBron James, one of the biggest connections between the two superstars actually has nothing to do with basketball.

It is golf.

Clark opened up this week about her growing friendship with James and revealed the two share a bucket-list goal that fans probably did not expect. During an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews ahead of the Indiana Fever’s season opener, Clark explained that she and the NBA legend regularly talk about golf and hope to eventually hit the course together.

“We text about golf,” Clark said. “That’s next on our bucket list, is to play golf together.”

The Fever star even joked that the experience might include plenty of bad shots.

“I’m not sure either of us are too great and we might be chasing the ball a lot,” Clark added. “But I think basketball players just like the mental challenge of an individual sport like golf.”

LeBron James has quietly become one of Caitlin Clark’s biggest supporters

While the golf revelation quickly caught fans’ attention online, Clark’s comments also offered another glimpse into the relationship she has built with James over the last two years. Long before Clark became the centerpiece of the Fever franchise, James publicly supported her rise through college basketball. He congratulated her after she broke the NCAA all-time scoring record and continued backing her through the highs and lows of her early WNBA career.

That support apparently became even more meaningful during Clark’s injury-filled 2025 season. Clark revealed that James personally checked in while she dealt with multiple injuries that limited her availability throughout the year. According to Clark, the Lakers superstar even offered to connect her with people who could help during her recovery process.

“LeBron has just been there to support me more than anything,” Clark said. “He understands the microscope that I’m under, and the spotlight that’s on me.”

She added that James consistently tries to help both her and the game itself continue growing.

“When I was hurt last year, he reached out and was like, ‘Is there any way I can help you?’” Clark explained. “Just somebody that’s there trying to help you, trying to help make the game better, help you improve.”

Caitlin Clark enters 2026 with fresh expectations

The timing of Clark’s comments comes as anticipation continues building around the Fever entering the 2026 WNBA season. After a historic rookie campaign in 2024, Clark’s second season became far more complicated because of injuries involving her quad, groin, and ankle. Even while battling those setbacks, she still averaged 16.5 points and 8.8 assists per game while remaining one of the league’s biggest attractions.

Now healthy again, Clark enters Year 3 facing another wave of expectations as Indiana tries to take the next step in the WNBA playoff race. The Fever will officially begin their 2026 season Saturday afternoon against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

But before that opener arrives, fans now have another future sports crossover to hope for: Clark and James searching for golf balls together somewhere on a fairway.
