BYU's AJ Dybantsa teases 'big' announcement on social media, potential NBA Draft decision

BYU star forward AJ Dybantsa enjoyed a standout freshman season with the Cougars, as expected.

The Brockton, Massachusetts native’s video-game-like acceleration in triple-threat situations/after hang dribbles, physicality in the paint regardless of his opponents’ upper-body strength, poise in late shot-clock scenarios thanks to his reliable in-between game and above-the-rim finishing made him near-impossible to contain regularly.

Dybantsa also showed promise as a lengthy, anticipatory defender with a high motor. The 19-year-old averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in 2025-26, but surprisingly, has yet to declare for the NBA Draft. That could change on Thursday, though, as Dybantsa revealed that he plans to make a ‘big’ announcement on Instagram Live.

“Big news tomorrow 11:45 am ET,” Dybantsa wrote Wednesday. “IG Live at 12:00 pm ET.”

While Dybantsa’s mom previously stated that she would love nothing more than for her superstar son to remain in college for a little while longer, it’s difficult to envision the future lottery pick spending more than one year at the collegiate level.

The former McDonald’s All-American is an undeniable pro, and with the NBA and Friday's early entry deadline, it’s reasonable to assume Dybantsa is prepared to announce his intentions to take his talents to the next level.
