Burnley have announced a new club captain ahead of the team's return to the Premier League.
Josh Brownhill was the previous captain at Turf Moor, as he led Scott Parker's side to automatic promotion from the Championship last season at the first attempt.
However, he chose to move on from The Clarets and not sign a new contract after months of doubt over his future at the club.
Following confirmation of the midfielder's exit from Burnley earlier this week, the captaincy role needed to be filled ahead of the upcoming season.
On Thursday afternoon, Burnley announced via X that Josh Cullen would be the new skipper for Scott Parker's side.
The defensive midfielder, who has been with Burnley since joining from Anderlecht in 2022, was ever-present in his side's promotion triumph last season, featuring in 44 league games.

Why Cullen was chosen to succeed Brownhill
The appointment of Cullen as the new Burnley captain seems a sensible one considering he has led the team out numerous times as a stand-in skipper.
Also, at 29-years-of-age, Cullen possesses the necessary experience to keep Burnley's dressing room in order and help guide the team's younger players.
The Republic of Ireland international first wore the captain's armband for Burnley two years ago in a game against Huddersfield Town, and recently led Parker's men out in a pre-season match with Shrewsbury Town.
Cullen's experience will be crucial in helping Burnley attempt to avoid the drop back to the Championship this upcoming season.
Newly promoted teams can often struggle with the significant jump up in quality in the Premier League, which leads to fewer winning displays and morale dropping within the squad.
New summer signing, Kyle Walker, will also be expected to take up a key leadership role in the Burnley dressing room.
The veteran defender is a six-time Premier League winner from his time with Manchester City, and was recently trusted with captaining his new side in a pre-season fixture with Huddersfield.
Parker's side begin the upcoming Premier League campaign with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on August 16.
