Prince William Shares Heartwarming Update on Kate Middleton’s Health Journey
Prince William and Kate Middleton endured a scary experience at their home last month.
Burglars allegedly broke into the grounds of Windsor Castle—the estate that includes Prince and Princess of Wales’ primary residence—in October, police confirmed to NBC News .
Thames Valley Police told the outlet it received report of a burglary "at a property on Crown Estate land" just before midnight on Oct. 13. Police said the burglars entered a farm building and "made off with a black Isuzu pickup and a red quad bike" before leaving for a nearby town.
They added in their statement, “No arrests have been made at this stage and an investigation is ongoing.”
The location of the burglary was just a few miles away from Adelaide Cottage, where Kate and William live with their children Prince George , 11, Princess Charlotte , 9, and Prince Louis , 6. King Charles III and Queen Camilla , for their part, reside primarily in London’s Clarence House, near Buckingham Palace.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace responded to NBC News’ request for comment.
This is not the first time intruders have made their way into the ground of Windsor Castle in recent years.
In April 2022, an unidentified man posed as a priest upon his arrival at the royal grounds. According to NBC News, he spent the night eating and drinking, before being given a bed in the barracks, which are not located on castle grounds. At 9:20 a.m., the security raised an alarm, and police removed the intruder from the sleeping quarters.

"We received a report of an outsider at Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street, Windsor," a Thames Valley Police spokesperson told NBC in a statement. "Officers attended and removed the outsider from the barracks. No further action was required."
And just months before, a 19-year-old trespasser got onto the estate on Christmas Day in 2021 armed with a crossbow where he was shortly arrested .
The break-in at Windsor Castle comes amid what has been a challenging year for the royal family after both Kate and King Charles were diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2024.
As William told reporters earlier in November of navigating his wife and father’s health challenges, “It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life.”

“Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” the 42-year-old continued. “I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it's been, yeah, it's been brutal.”
Though when asked how his wife and father were doing—Kate announced the completion of her chemotherapy in Sept. while Charles returned to public facing duties in April—William added the pair are “doing well.”
