Bulls sign former No. 9 overall pick after Knicks, Warriors stints

The Chicago Bulls' newest organization member is a very familiar name to NBA fans.

New York Knicks fans in particular will have feelings about this guy: Kevin Knox.

The NBA's official transaction log shows that the Bulls have signed and then waived Knox.

That's a procedure designed to get Knox onto their G League roster, in this case, the Windy City Bulls.

Knox was the No. 9 overall pick by the Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft.

From there, he played for the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz.

In 320 career NBA games, Knox has averaged 7.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 34% from 3-point range.

Last season, Knox spent part of his time in the G League and part of it in the NBA.

He appeared in 14 games for limited minutes with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA.

In the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Knox averaged 25.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Knox is still just 26 years old and has length and scoring ability, although he just never quite put it together at the NBA level.

The Bulls aren't taking a big risk here. Having Knox getting buckets in the G League isn't a bad deal, and it allows them to keep a close eye on him. Players with the pedigree of Knox get lots of chances, and Chicago could eventually decide he deserves another shot at the NBA level.

For now, Knox will try to prove himself with the G League Bulls as he keeps his basketball career alive.
