The Chicago Bulls have totally revamped their front office, coaching staff and lineup. That has to account for something. This team is hungry to get back to its glory days, and they're doing big things to strive towards that.
But, it takes time to turn a franchise around. It could actually take longer than Bulls fans want to hear.
Stephen Noh of The Sporting News has a feature out ranking every team in the NBA for the 2029-30 season. So, we're talking several years from now. The decisions the Bulls are making today will impact where they are in three years, and Noh is taking that into account.
Bulls face a long road back to contention
So, even after all the changes this franchise is making, unfortunately, Noh has the Bulls at No. 20 in the league by 2029. That's not a big improvement. Frustrating, right?
"The Bulls very likely could have a completely new roster built around Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis by 2029," he notes in the piece. "Lead decision-maker Bryson Graham has few ties to any of the current players. Those two will still be young enough that Chicago won't be great, but they could be an exciting low-end playoff team."
He also says that the biggest changes will come next summer, when Chicago is expected to have more than $50 million in cap space in 2027. They'll also have lottery picks to keep building their roster.
So, it may take time. That's not what Bulls fans want to hear. It makes sense that a Bulls championship isn't on target for this year or next, but according to Noh, it may take even longer to get back there.
