The Buffalo Bills are heading to their second AFC Championship Game of the Josh Allen era, and once again they'll be facing the Kansas City Chiefs for the fourth time in the postseason. However, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone giving them, or their superstar quarterback Josh Allen, their well-earned praise for making it further than just about anyone thought they would.
Yes, instead of giving Allen and co. their flowers, just about every NFL TV personality raced to social media to defend Lamar Jackson before tight end Mark Andrews got back to the sideline after failing to catch the potential game-tying two-point conversion. Stephen A. Smith of ESPN was one of those to try and shield Jackson.
"This is not on Lamar Jackson," Smith posted on X. "He did his job. Unfortunately, the great Mark Andrews — who hasn’t lost a fumble since 2019, and doesn’t drop passes — got stripped for a fumble and then dropped the 2-pt conversion that would’ve tied the game with under 2 min left. Tragic! Absolutely Tragic."
Ryan Clark also dove on the proverbial grenade to save Jackson in a post on X.
"You fought 8," Clark said. "Gave your team the chance. Had adversity in the first half & kept pushing. Did everything you had to in the 2nd half to earn extra minutes. That’s the way it goes when it’s good on good. This ain’t on you, you showed up in the most important moments."
Now let's flip the script here. Imagine if it was Josh Allen who had two turnovers and lost the game. Everyone on those respective networks and shows would rip him apart and resort to their same old narratives for the next eight months. "He's a turnover machine." "He's not on Lamar Jackson's level." "He can't win the big game." "He can't get past the divisional round." Every single one of them would have sounded off full volume blasting Josh Allen because apparently that is their favorite activity aside from coddling No. 8 in Baltimore. And it's a shame that all that is being talked about after that game is "Oh, poor Lamar" instead of praising Allen and the Bills.
