Buffalo Bills interviewing Philip Rivers for head coaching vacancy

The Buffalo Bills have hit the ground running with their head coaching search. Buffalo has interviewed Brian Daboll, and are scheduled to interview Mike McDaniel and Lou Anarumo, amongst others. One name that will shock everyone, though, is Philip Rivers, whom the Bills are interviewing Friday.

"Former Colts QB and current St. Michael Catholic High School coach Philip Rivers is interviewing today for the Buffalo Bills head coaching job," Adam Schefter reports.

Rivers' final playoff game came in the 2020 season in Buffalo, where the Bills defeated the Indianapolis Colts to advance to the divisional round, marking their first playoff win since the playoff drought began.

Rivers hadn't played a down since that game, but came out of retirement this season after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. While he didn't lead the Colts to any wins, he showed he was more than capable of reading defenses pre-snap and keeping the Colts competitive.

Rivers has no coaching experience outside of the high school level, so to make the jump from high school head coach to NFL head coach would be surprising, to say the least.
