Matthews has been absent from AEW since February 2025. He suffered an ankle injury during his entrance for his match with Kazuchika Okada. Taking to Instagram, Matthews shared a video of himself doing a tricep extension exercise. In the caption, he urged his fans to endure their struggles in silence rather than suffer in front of everyone.

Therefore, it can be believed that he is preparing for his comeback to the ring and to get back in his character sooner than later. Recently, the 37-year-old shared some good news with his fans about his recovery. With that said, only time will tell when Matthews will make a return to AEW.
