The Giannis Antetokounmpo saga is going to come to and end this offseason, one way or another.
The two-time NBA MVP has just one year remaining on his current contract, and the Bucks obviously don’t want to risk losing him for nothing in free agency in 2027. So, they’ll have two options over the offseason – either lock Antetokounmpo up with an extension, or trade him.
That fact isn’t lost on Bucks controlling owner Wes Edens, who laid out the team’s two options as plainly as possible.
"Giannis is going into the last year [of his contract]. So one of two things will happen: Either he will be extended or he'll be traded,” Edens said, via ESPN.
"The likelihood you'll let him just kind of play out the last year, we can't afford that. It's not consistent with what's good for the organization. That's not a Giannis issue. That's any player that's in their last year."
