Bucks get bad news on Damian Lillard's real feelings on joining Celtics

Damian Lillard requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2023 summer. He made it known instantly that he didn't want to play for the Boston Celtics.

There could have been a few reasons for that, but ultimately, Lillard ended up with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks decided to waive and stretch the star, a decision that came as a massive surprise.

Hopefully for the Bucks, it’ll be the right one. Ultimately, Milwaukee took a risk, and it has to hope that it works out.

But for the Celtics, it could work in their favor.

Some have suggested that Lillard could end up in Boston.

According to a recent report from the Boston Herald, Lillard is also “more receptive” to joining the Celtics than he was in 2023, which obviously isn't ideal for the Bucks.

“Lastly, though Lillard reportedly is more receptive to joining Boston than he was in 2023, when the Celtics were linked to him before trading for Holiday, it’s unclear where his priorities lie this offseason. The Celtics can offer Lillard a minimum contract, or a $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception if they make additional moves to dip back below the second apron of the luxury tax, which they exceeded with their recent signings of Garza and Minott,” they wrote.

It's tough to say that Lillard will be nearly the same type of player he was prior to the Achilles injury.

At 35 years old already, it isn't exactly easy to come back from those types of injuries, even for younger players.

However, Lillard is a hard worker and a prolific scorer. There's a chance he'll come back from this in a similar way.

If he's even 75% of what he once was, he’d be a great addition for the Celtics for a very cheap price.
