Bucks' Bobby Portis makes major free agency announcement

The Milwaukee Bucks' 2024-25 campaign came to an end in a way that is becoming all-too familiar, as the team was eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the third year in a row. The team will be staring at several big questions this offseason, with one of them involving the future of veteran big man Bobby Portis.

Portis just finished up his fifth season with the Bucks, and he has remained a spark plug scorer off the bench for the Bucks. Portis was steady as usual this season, averaging 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and a career-high 2.1 assists per game while shooting 46.6% percent from the floor.

Sweeping changes could be in store for Milwaukee this offseason after a third-straight first-round exit, and Portis has a decision to make on his future, as he has a player option in his contract. When asked about his player option, Portis kept it real, saying that while he loves the Bucks, he's aware changes may be coming this offseason.

"It is a huge decision that I have to make," Portis said on "Run It Back." "If you're looking at business wise, how do someone that's the GM of the team look at the team losing three straight years in the first round? It all depends on how everything shakes up. I would love to be in Milwaukee, I love it here."

If Portis opts into the final year of his contract, he'd earn $13.445 million next season before hitting the open market next offseason. If he declines his option, though, Portis could test the waters of free agency before deciding where he goes next, whether it be a return to Milwaukee or joining a new team.

With trade rumors swirling around Giannis Antetokounmpo, there are bigger issues the Bucks have to worry about. And it sounds like the Bucks handling of this situation and the ensuing moves they do or don't make will determine what decision Portis ends up making.
