Buccaneers' rookie Emeka Egbuka gets awful injury update before Week 3

1 hour ago 2

Emeka Egbuka has taken the NFL by storm in his first two games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a rookie out of Ohio State.

But the No. 21 overall pick got some bad injury news on Wednesday.

Egbuka did not participate at all in Bucs practice coming off their Monday night win over the Texans.

The rookie is listed with hip and groin injuries.

He did miss some portions of Monday night's game as he was examined on the sideline, and with the quick turnaround to the Wednesday practice, Egbuka was a DNP. His status on Thursday and Friday will tell us a lot about whether Egbuka will be available to face the New York Jets on Sunday in Week 3.

Egbuka already has three touchdown catches.

Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield had at least a bit of injury question hovering over him, too, but he was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.

A couple of stars were limited. Chris Godwin (ankle) and Tristan Wirfs (knee) are trying to make their season debuts, and they'll be candidates to ramp up to full participation as the week goes along.

Two other players were DNPs: right tackle Luke Goedeke (foot) and right guard Cody Mauch (foot).

The Bucs host the Jets on Sunday.
