The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers in desperate need of a win to keep their season alive.
Sitting at 1-5 and facing the 3-2 Panthers, a loss in Week 7 would all but end their playoff and NFC South hopes. A win? This team would be back on track. Fortunately for the Buccaneers, they just got some good news for this matchup.
ESPN's Adam Schefter shared that the Buccaneers' head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Friday that Baker Mayfield, who hasn't played since Week 3, "looks like he's ready to go" against the Panthers this weekend.
Buccaneers announce great Baker Mayfield news
"Bucs HC Todd Bowles told reporters that Baker Mayfield 'looks like he's ready to go', and he now is expected to start Sunday vs. the Panthers," Schefter reports.
The Buccaneers, in a must-win game against the NFC South rival Panthers, are going to get their star quarterback back on the field based on this update.
It's not set in stone just yet, as the Buccaneers likely want to make sure there isn't a flare-up of any issues with this right thumb injury.
But, as of Friday afternoon, all signs point towards the Buccaneers getting Mayfield back right as they're desperate for his return. Unfortunately, Emeka Egbuka is looking like he'll miss this week, but at the very least, they're getting Mayfield back.

Jalon Daniels hasn't been terrible in relief of Mayfield, getting the team's lone win over the Dallas Cowboys a few weeks ago. But Mayfield's return just means a lot to this team.
This is a huge test for Mayfield, as the new $165 million quarterback is coming back from injury, and he might be without his top WR in a must-win matchup against a tough divisional opponent.
But if nothing else, at least Mayfield seems poised to return to the team on Sunday against the Panthers in a pivotal must-win Week 7 matchup.
