Buccaneers predicted to trade RB away in cost-cutting deal to AFC

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers couldn't always figure out what to do with all their running backs in 2024.

Rachaad White was the relative veteran of the group. Bucky Irving took over as the main man. And Sean Tucker showed promise but was only third in the pecking order.

It was hard to get all three onto the field for ample time in the same game.

There's one possible way to solve that, and it's trading away White, who is in the last year of his contract and will be owed $3.4 million.

Pro Football Network's Sterling Xie thinks the New England Patriots should get on the phone and try to trade for White.

In 2024, White had 613 rushing yards at 4.3 yards per carry while also catching 51 passes for 393 yards and six TDs.

The Buccaneers could likely expect a late-round draft pick back for White.

More importantly, it'd signal to Irving that he's going to be the backfield leader here. And Tucker would get a chance to show whether he's a surefire NFL running back himself.

The Buccaneers could then use an extra draft pick to pick a new RB, too, getting a fresh, younger rusher on a cheaper deal to continue the running back depth chart's flow forward.
