Buccaneers' plan for Shilo Sanders revealed by head coach Todd Bowles

Shilo Sanders was clearly a priority for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Less than half an hour after the NFL Draft ended on Saturday, the Bucs had reached an agreement with Deion's defensive son as an undrafted free agent.

On Monday, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles got the chance to explain why.

“I think he’s a good football player," Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He’s a heck of a tackler and he knows the game very well — he can see the game very well."

Bowles is also envisioning a real role for Shilo Sanders.

He was projected by some as a fifth-round pick, ironically the round that his more-heralded brother Shedeur was actually chosen by the Browns.

Shilo will have a chance to stick around as an UDFA.

"Giving him a chance to play, we think he has a shot to help us from a safety standpoint and from a special teams standpoint," Bowles said. "So I’m excited to get him in here and see how he moves. I saw him tackle all year. I saw him make plays. He’s a very smart player and he understands the game very well. So we thought it was worth a shot to see what he can do and I think he’ll show himself well.”

Special teams is definitely key, as that's often a place rookies can make-or-break their roster spot with a new team.

In post-draft comments, Shilo's father Deion praised Bowles as a strong defensive coach.

Now, the Sanders family will get to see if Shilo can break through and play for Bowles on an NFL defense.
