Buccaneers get brutal Mike Evans injury update ahead of Eagles clash

2 hours ago 2

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans limped off the field against the New York Jets with a hamstring injury as the Pro Bowl weapon didn't return to the game.

Head coach Todd Bowles was unsure of the severity of the injury and needed an MRI to assess the extent of the damage. Now, we know what the next portion of the season looks like for Tampa Bay, and it isn't too pretty.

Per ESPN's Jenna Laine, a source stated that Evans has a mild hamstring strain and is looking at three to four weeks on the sidelines, and with the Philadelphia Eagles up next, that is far from ideal.

Given that Evans missed a month last season with a hamstring injury, we get the sense that the Tampa Bay staff will be cautious with Evans, and the three-to-four-week timeline to return might be more fluid than that.

Either way, the Buccaneers will be without their most trusted weapon for the next couple of weeks.

Will Chris Godwin play vs. Eagles?

Godwin is still on the comeback trail after his nasty ankle injury, and in the offseason, Week 5 or 6 was seen as a realistic return date. We are quickly approaching that, but with Evans now out, will Tampa Bay look to try and get No. 14 back on the field quicker?

We don't think so, and with Emeka Egbuka doing great things in the passing game, along with Sterling Shepard and running backs Bucky Irving and Rachaad White, Tampa might feel good about its chances to go toe-to-toe with the NFC powerhouse in Week 4.

The Buccaneers have a full treatment room with a handful of offensive linemen out injured and now Evans, so it looms as a tall task for Tampa to slay the Eagles.

But there are still more than enough weapons for Josh Grizzard's unit to trouble Vic Fangio's defense.
