The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sitting pretty at 5-1 on the season, fresh after beating the San Francisco 49ers, but goodness me, that treatment room is beginning to fill up rather quickly.
The latest addition is rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka, who left the game on Sunday in the third quarter with a hamstring injury, and he joins Mike Evans and Chris Godwin as other receivers who are banged up.
And on Monday, head coach Todd Bowles gave an update on several players, including Emeka, Evans, and two corners in Zyon McCollum and Benjamin Morrison.
“Mek’s going to get an MRI tomorrow, so we'll find out more then," Bowles said. "We hope to see Mike, Zyon, and Morrison do something this week, and then we'll see how much they do to determine if they can play and what they can do."
But that isn't all, what about Godwin?
"Chris is not in play to practice, so I'm sure he probably won't be back," Bowles added.
And when asked if it was the same for Bucky Irving, Bowles replied, "Yes."
So, things aren't looking too positive right now for the Buccaneers.
Injury-riddled Buccaneers face huge Lions test
Traveling to Ford Field to take on the 4-2 Detroit Lions, who will be stinging at their 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay is going to have to pull out all the stops to slay Dan Campbell's team.
And that will be hard without Godwin and Irving, and if Evans and Egbuka can't go either, it will be up to the same crew that helped Baker Mayfield put away the 49ers, who will be called into action.
The Buccaneers haven't gotten any help on the injury front this season, and with two games to go until their bye week, the franchise must keep trying to stack wins and hope reinforcements arrive post-bye.
At 5-1, things are good, but we know how quickly things can change in the NFL, and that injury list has to shrink at some point, right?
