Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield reacts to Mike Evans' potential return with 3 incredible words

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been hit by injuries yet again, and this time the offense has been harshly dealt with as multiple weapons have been on the sidelines for Baker Mayfield.

But the tide might be turning.

Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans, who has missed the last three weeks with a hamstring injury, made an appearance on the practice field on Thursday as he steps up his recovery in the hope of suiting up against the Detroit Lions on Monday night.

And for Mayfield, he had one overriding thought when he saw No. 13 back at practice.

"It's a good safety blanket," Mayfield said with a smile. "It's nice to see him out there."

Mike Evans' return would be welcome

With Bucky Irving, Emeka Egbuka, and Chris Godwin likely out for Monday night's game, the Buccaneers will be hoping that Evans can get to the point where he can see the field.

Otherwise, it will be up to the likes of Tez Johnson, Sterling Shepard, Cade Otton, Kameron Johnson, and Rachaad White to again carry the offensive workload. The group fared well against the San Francisco 49ers last week, but Detroit is a different beast.

Tampa Bay will be cautious with Evans in his return, so don't expect a lot of snaps if he does make it to the field, given he's been out for three weeks. Still, just having the Pro Bowler as an option will open up what is already an elite offense, and the Lions, who have defensive issues, might have their work cut out.

And in the hostile environment of Ford Field, it might be a good time for Mayfield to get his safety blanket back.
