The perception of Bryce Young has dramatically shifted since entering the league.
The former Heisman Trophy winner and top pick in the 2023 draft was supposed to come in and give the woeful Carolina Panthers stability under center, but a substandard supporting cast and constant coaching changes stunted Young's early development.
After getting unceremoniously benched early last season, the 24-year-old responded by playing the best ball of his career. With new weapons added to the roster and familiarity with Dave Canales' offense catered to Young's strengths, a breakout campaign could be on the horizon.
Still, one national analyst suggested the renewed optimism doesn't omit Young from an undesirable label entering the season.
On ESPN's "Unsportsmanlike" radio show, host Evan Cohen included Young in a list of players under the most pressure entering 2025.
"We're all riding high on Bryce Young, but what if he's not as good as we think he is?" Cohen asked. "Next year, his salary is $12M on the team and $12M off the team. It makes it easier to say, 'Bryce, we tried; it just didn't work.' He's got to be good, because if not, he's out."
The reality of the modern NFL is that there is no more patience with quarterbacks, regardless of how much capital an organization invests in acquiring them.
The Panthers have poured in resources to put Young in a position to succeed, so if he can't, at best, he'll be on the trade block next off-season.
This team likely has to be a fringe NFC playoff contender for Young to keep his job.
