Bryce Underwood sets a Michigan record even J.J. McCarthy never reached

Bryce Underwood and the No. 23 Michigan Wolverines quickly erased the memory of their Week 2 loss to Oklahoma with a dominant 63-3 rout of Central Michigan on Saturday. High-scoring affairs like this often come with record-setting performances, and Underwood delivered. The freshman quarterback made history, setting a record even former Wolverines star J.J. McCarthy never reached.

Underwood rushed for 114 yards against the Chippewas, becoming the first Michigan quarterback to surpass 100 rushing yards in a game since Devin Gardner on Oct. 12, 2013.

The 18-year-old true freshman showcased his athleticism throughout the contest, mixing strong passes with dynamic runs. Underwood threw for 235 yards and a touchdown, adding 114 rushing yards and two scores.

By putting up these numbers, Underwood joined another exclusive group. He became just the second Michigan player to record 200+ passing yards, a passing touchdown, 100+ rushing yards and multiple rushing TDs in a game. The only other to do so was Denard Robinson.
