Bryan Mbeumo has developed into one of the Premier League's most consistent attacking players since Brentford won promotion four years ago.
The forward, who can operate either out wide or in a central role, scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 2024/25 as Thomas Frank's team finished 10th in division. Only three players scored more top-flight goals throughout the season.
Mbeumo's performances have won him plenty of admirers, including other clubs. Manchester United have been pursuing a deal to sign him for weeks as they attempt to put together a squad that head coach Ruben Amorim can lead to better results than they managed in a wretched 2024/25 campaign.
After it had looked the deal was stalling, there may have been a breakthrough: on July 17, David Ornstein reported that United had lodged a new and improved offer, and one the club — and the player — hoped would be sufficient. It now looks likely that the deal will be finalised before United head for their preseason games in the United States next week.
Brentford stand to make a significant profit on their star performer, and Mbeumo himself is looking at a big wage increase.

Bryan Mbeumo transfer fee: How much did Man United offer?
David Ornstein said on July 17 that United's new offer for Mbeumo was £65 million ($87.1m) plus a potential further £5m ($6.7m) in add-ons.
The bid came after a long impasse during which United appeared determined not to be forced to overpay for the player, even though he was a primary target. Brentford, for their part, wanted to make sure they got what they considered fair market value.
According to Ben Jacobs, United began talks with Brentford on June 4 over the possibility of signing Mbeumo, at which point the Bees wanted close to the £62.5m ($83.7m) United paid for Matheus Cunha, given Mbeumo's contract length and age.

What did Brentford pay for Bryan Mbeumo?
Brentford signed Mbeumo from Troyes on August 5, 2019, when they were still a Championship club. They paid a reported fee of £5.8 million ($7m), which was a club record at the time and reflected their ambition to reach the Premier League.
It certainly proved money well spent: Mbeumo was nominated for the EFL Young Player of the Year award for 2019/20 and 2020/21, when Brentford earned promotion to the top flight. He hasn't looked back since.
Bryan Mbeumo contract, salary
Mbeumo's Brentford contract is worth approximately £2.34m ($3.14m) per year, according to Capology. His wages work out at £45,000 ($60,410) per week.
There were suggestions Mbeumo wanted in the region of £250,000 ($338,000) per week to join United, but it's unlikely he will be paid such a salary. A basic wage of around £150,000 per week ($201,000) seems more realistic.
Where is Bryan Mbeumo from?
Mbeumo was born in Avallon in eastern France on August 7, 1999.
He played for his country of birth at youth level but opted to play senior international football for Cameroon, where his father is from.
Bryan Mbeumo age
Mbeumo will turn 26 years old on August 7, 2025, which is a week before the 2025/26 Premier League season begins.
