The Boston Bruins' Morgan Geekie has one of the most amusing names in the NHL.
He and the Bruins are surely hoping their upcoming contract negotiations don't lack too much of that amusement.
Geekie told the Boston Globe that contract talks have been "pretty preliminary."
He's coming off a rather unexpected 33-goal, 57-point season.
"That could push his price tag past the $5MM mark on a multi-year deal this time around," writes Pro Hockey Rumors' Brian La Rose. "He’s arbitration-eligible but with hearings generally running from July 20 to August 4, it’s possible that Boston’s plan is to simply let him file for arbitration late next week and then start to have more substantive discussions on a new agreement at that time."

Geekie will turn 27 years old in July.
He's made quite the career for himself after being drafted in the third round (67th overall) in 2017.
Geekie's previous career highs before this season were both in 2023-24, when he went for 17 goals and 22 assists.
Raising those numbers to 33 goals and 24 assists was remarkable.
Geekie spent the first two of his NHL seasons with Carolina, then the next two with Seattle before finally joining Boston.
It took the Bruins long enough to break Geekie out of his shell, but now that he's played this well, it'll make it trickier to keep him. Boston could certainly use him, if he wants to stay.
