Look, we all respect Mary Kay Cabot, but the Browns insider's latest take on 92.3 The Fan would have Cleveland walking into a quarterback and salary cap nightmare.
She argued, “I would definitely be looking at Malik Willis. He's somebody I said the Browns should draft in 2022. We know Todd Monken prefers a dual threat QB... It's very interesting both him and Andrew Berry are definitely open to bringing someone else in."
Wait... did we watch the same tape?
Let’s be real, the Malik Willis “renaissance" is the ultimate Matt LaFleur Green Bay scheme fit trap. LaFleur did a tremendous job adjusting the offense to make Willis shine over a small four game stretch this season where he threw a combined 35-times. That’s right, 35 total pass attempts, and the Packers lost the last two games he appeared in.
This has Matt Flynn 2.0 bust written all over it. A massive overpay for a small sample size that will leave the front office looking foolish.
The Browns simply don’t have the luxury of another high-priced gamble. With Deshaun Watson’s $80-million cap hit looming like a dark cloud, sinking $30-$40-million into Willis isn't just risky, it’s a financial poison pill.

It is time to stop chasing expensive "bridge" veterans and roll with Shedeur Sanders. He’s younger, cheaper, and has a significantly higher ceiling in Todd Monken’s new offense. Let’s see how the Pro Bowl alternate actually looks in a full training camp where he’ll get proper reps with the starters.
If Shedeur isn't the guy and flops? Fine. Cleveland still saves the cap space, has a future back-up, and can look to draft a blue-chip QB next year. But signing Malik Willis? That’s a trap Cleveland can't afford to fall for.
