Skip Bayless doesn’t approve of Shedeur Sanders’ recent actions. Certainly not his multiple speeding tickets. Bayless believes that if it keeps up, Shedeur could end up with his father, Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders, back in Boulder.
Bayless delivered the equivalent of a pep talk to the “Grown QB” on his show, telling Shedeur that he’s better than his recent behavior.
“Shedeur, you gotta be driven, man. This is it. This is your shot. It’s gonna come and it’ll go. I believe in you with all my heart and soul. You’re a tough young man. You took so much punishment over the last two years, so much punishment,” Bayless said.
“You showed me real mental and physical toughness. You have big-time ability and command of that position. Deadly accurate, plenty of arm, clutch. You got the whole package, Shedeur. Think. Make some, at least, mental signs. You just can’t, you can’t do that, or you’re gonna wind up back home with your dad. You’re better than that.”
“Come on, man” seems to be the prevailing attitude the talking heads are having to Sanders’ recent off-field gaffes.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio also scolded Sanders for his lack of awareness to be so reckless while being one of the sporting world’s most influential figures.
“Shedeur Sanders is as deep into the public eye as you can be,” Florio said. “It just speaks to a lack of awareness. You have to understand how your behavior is going to result in consequences. After everything he's been through, you would think he would've figured it out by now. One, fine; two, come on, man.”
Sanders doesn’t have forever to correct the narrative. While the Cleveland Browns are set to keep him on the roster, things change quickly in a world where guaranteed money is hard to come by, especially for celebrity fourth-stringers with headline-attracting and locker room-distracting off-field issues.
Staying in a mansion at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains is not typically a punishment for a person. But for a quarterback who was destined to be a franchise face before falling to the fifth round in one of the NFL’s all-time draft stock crashes, being back with Deion would represent a litany of missed opportunities for Shedeur.
