Browns' Shedeur Sanders sparks controversy after liking social media post about Dillon Gabriel

Shedeur Sanders isn't hiding from the fact that he thinks he should be starting.

It's safe to say the Cleveland Browns were hoping to see more out of Dillon Gabriel over his first handful of starts in the NFL. The rookie signal-caller has struggled and right now it doesn't look like he's going to be "the guy" in Cleveland.

If this continues, the Browns need to get a look at Shedeur Sanders at some point, as Cleveland needs to have a full assessment of both of their rookie signal-callers before entering a 2026 NFL draft that could see them use another draft pick on a quarterback.

Sanders apparently agrees, as he liked an Instagram post from Browns beat writer Brad Stainbrook that called for the Browns to bench Gabriel for Sanders.

Here's what the post said, along with a photo of Sanders' like.

"I've seen enough of Dillon Gabriel," Stainbrook said. "It's time for the Browns to start getting Shedeur Sanders ready after the bye week. Give him two weeks to take time, settle in, and make his first NFL start. You didn't draft him to sit forever... and this offense needs a spark.

"Gabriel's had his shot, and the team feels flat. Let the rookie learn on the fly, make mistakes, and grow. There's no better time to see what you've got in Shedeur."

Snaders was promoted to the QB2 role in the wake of the Browns trading Joe Flacco, but he has yet to see the field since that promotion.

In Week 8, Sanders was a late addition to the injury report with a back issue and was ultimately ruled out.

Stainbrook hits the nail right on the head with his post, although Sanders showing his public support for it isn't going to sit well with the Browns.

One has to wonder if Cleveland would consider trading Shedeur if the team doesn't plan on using him, but it remains to be seen how much interest he would draw from other teams given the media circus that will inevitably follow him.
