Browns predicted to trade Colorado legend Shedeur Sanders to NFC team that snubbed him in draft

The Cleveland Browns are now in a three-player quarterback race for the starting job after Kenny Pickett went down with an injury. However, it appears the real battle is between Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco, as Shedeur Sanders hasn’t been getting many first-team reps. According to 92.3 The Fan’s Nick Pedone, the Browns may be holding Sanders back deliberately.

“Doesn’t it feel like that they’ve got the training wheels on Shedeur Sanders? If he balls out (in preseason), the Browns are not going to be able to continue hide,” Pedone wrote.

Despite the limited reps, ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum believes Sanders is still the best option to start.

“Guys, Shedeur Sanders,” Tannenbaum said on Get Up. “This is a no-brainer. I want you to take some copious notes here. Since 2000, there’s only been six quarterbacks start a game under six feet tall. That’s Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Bryce Young, PJ Walker, Seneca Wallace, and Doug Flutie. Exactly. So, to me, even though Dillon Gabriel went in the third round, I would start Shedeur Sanders. Let them fight it out on the field, but to me, Shedeur Sanders has the better pro body and more upside.”

Things have reportedly gotten so limited for Sanders in camp that he’s occasionally been forced to throw to staff members during practice—an indicator of how few real reps he's getting. On a recent podcast episode, former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel Sr. suggested that a trade could be in the works.

“He goes out there and does something like he did today, nine for nine, two touchdowns, 32 other teams are watching,” Samuel said. “Oh man, this might be the first time we see in history that something bizarre happens where a team tries to make a trade for him like the New Orleans Saints.”

The Saints currently have one of the more unstable quarterback rooms in the league, and acquiring Sanders could ultimately prove to be a smart move. When Sanders has been given opportunities, he’s made the most of them. If the Browns aren’t going to capitalize on his talent, there’s no doubt another team will.
