The Cleveland Browns are predicted to make a trade before training camp that could end Shedeur Sanders' chances of making the roster.
AOL.com's Jordan OMalley predicts the Browns will trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to be the starter in 2025, which would put Sanders in a tough spot to earn a place on the roster.
"Cleveland has uncertainty under center, and head coach Kevin Stefanski knows Cousins well from their Minnesota days. A reunion would give the Browns a stable QB option," OMalley wrote.
After a rough 2024 campaign, where he tied for the league lead in interceptions thrown with 16, Cousins is slated to back up Michael Penix Jr. in Atlanta in 2025.
Though Cousins is a solid veteran backup and mentor for Penix, it makes no sense for the Falcons to keep him on the roster, as he is on an expensive deal, and having him on the team could create unnecessary drama.
The Browns, who aren't expected to have Deshaun Watson in 2025, are set to hold a four-way quarterback competition in training camp between Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Sanders.
However, Cousins would be an upgrade over all four of them and could keep Cleveland competitive this year.
Giving up a draft pick for Cousins to serve as the 2025 starter would be a savvy move from general manager Andrew Barry, who may be fighting for his job this season, along with head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Cousins and Stefanski spent two years together with the Minnesota Vikings, and they could work well together in a Browns' offense that does have some exciting talent.
