Browns fans plead Kevin Stefanski for Shedeur Sanders at training camp practice, unaware of arm injury

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski angered fans on Saturday when he provided no opportunities for Shedeur Sanders at training camp during the first three team periods.

Little did the fanbase know, Sanders was held out of practice due to arm soreness.

850 ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi reported the dismay he experienced firsthand from the uninformed fans in Berea as 40-year-old veteran Joe Flacco and Sanders’ fellow rookie signal-caller, Dillon Gabriel, got to run the offense instead.

“Browns have conducted 3 team periods. Only QBs to rep were Joe Flacco & Dillon Gabriel. Heard a few fans say, ‘Put Shedeur in,’” Grossi tweeted.

Some in Grossi’s comment section put the blame on Stefanski, while others insinuated Browns GM Andrew Berry was holding the “Grown QB” hostage by not trading Sanders and instead keeping him rep-less on the sidelines.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer made a point amidst the drama to say that Dillon Gabriel, who completed 3-of-14 passes on Friday, is clearly ahead of Sanders on the team’s depth chart and has been since the moment he showed up in Cleveland.

“I don't know how many times I have to say this, but it's reality—Dillon Gabriel is ahead of Shedeur Sanders right now, and has been since both arrived in Cleveland. Sanders has worked to catch up, but he's got a lot of ground to make up,” Breer said.

That inspired 92.3 The Fan’s Daryl Ruiter to boldly berate Gabriel and claim the ball boys should be above him.

“I don’t know how to say this, but Dillon Gabriel shouldn’t be ahead of the ball boys. Every time I watch him I think to myself, they can’t be serious with this kid,” Ruiter said in response to Breer.

It's tough for any quarterback battling for a roster spot to miss time with any sort of injury, especially QBs with as few meaningful reps as Sanders these past few weeks. Stefanski may have been doing himself a favor by quieting the noise and sitting Sanders with an injury that, at least to some, sounds believable.

Public sentiment is clearly in support of Sanders over Gabriel, though, and that’s something the Browns’ brass will need to navigate as their search for an answer under center continues.
