Browns could clear the way for Shedeur Sanders by trading Kenny Pickett to lowly AFC team

Despite being held out of team drills during Saturday's practice due to arm soreness, Shedeur Sanders is having a nice camp with the Cleveland Browns, which could lead to a trade in the quarterback room.

Sportsnaut's Matt Johnson predicts Kenny Pickett will be the odd man out in Cleveland's quarterback competition. Johnson also predicts that Pickett will be traded to the Tennessee Titans for a fifth-round pick.

"In all likelihood, the Cleveland Browns are not going to keep all four of their quarterbacks on the roster by the start of September. Trading either Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders does not make much sense so soon after both were drafted, and Joe Flacco is familiar with Kevin Stefanski’s system. That makes Kenny Pickett the likely odd man out in Cleveland," Johnson wrote.

Pickett hasn't been practicing recently due to a hamstring injury. Missing valuable time in camp while competing for a starting spot with three other players isn't ideal, so there's a good chance Pickett has fallen behind in the competition.

The Browns can't keep all four signal-callers in Sanders, Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillion Gabriel on the 53-man roster heading into the season, so they'll have to move on from one. Trading Pickett, who does have some value on the market, would be a logical move if he isn't named the starter.

With Will Levis set to miss the entire 2025 campaign with shoulder surgery, the Titans may look to add a better backup than Brandon Allen to serve as quality depth behind No.1 overall pick Cam Ward.

Pickett has 25 games of starting experience and could play meaningful snaps if called upon, so he would be a solid option for Tennessee.

Overall, Sanders is having an impressive camp and is clearly gaining ground in the quarterback battle. Though the Colorado product is unlikely to earn the starting role, he is pushing for a roster spot, which could lead to an unexpected trade of Pickett in the near future.
