Browns blockbuster trade rumor should be of interest to Cowboys, Eagles, Bears

The Cleveland Browns aren’t expected to complete a blockbuster trade before the new season.

If Cleveland does execute a deal, it’ll likely involve their third-string quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, which wouldn’t be considered a mind-blowing transaction.

That said, the Athletic’s Zac Jackson is under the impression that while unlikely to occur, the Browns’ five-time All-Pro edge rusher, Myles Garrett, could theoretically depart Cleveland under the right circumstances.

“Garrett never attends spring practices ahead of mandatory minicamp, but it’s still notable that Garrett has not personally met with Monken,” Jackson wrote Thursday.

In March, the Browns and Garrett agreed to a contract modification that makes a trade of Garrett after June 1 more possible than it previously had been. It seems unlikely the Browns will trade Garrett given the way they’ve resisted it in the past and the way Garrett played last season, but the door remains cracked .”

Given that Jackson’s report indicates that a trade centered on Garrett isn’t impossible, the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Philadelphia Eagles should keep the 30-year-old star defender on their radar.

The Cowboys, like the Bears, recorded only 35 sacks in 2025-26 and struggled to bait opposing quarterbacks into making decisions more quickly than expected. Garrett, who totaled 23 sacks (single-season NFL record) with the Browns in Year 9, would help change that, as he’s already solidified himself as one of the most prolific pass rushers in the league.

Although the Eagles added former Vikings standout edge rusher Jonathan Greenard during the NFL draft, they could look to make an even bigger splash by pairing him with Garrett and wreaking havoc all year long.

Even if a deal doesn’t materialize this offseason, the three organizations mentioned could set their sights on a midseason deal for the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
