Browns biggest need is to add a better WR1 than Jerry Jeudy for Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns were busy to begin the 2026 NFL offseason. They added four offensive lineman, completely reshaping their starting group for 2026.

Teven Jenkins, Elgton Jenkins, Tytus Howard, and Zion Johnson were all acquired to start along the offensive line for Cleveland. Those were important additions, but there's still work to be done to improve the roster.

Zac Jackson of The Athletic identified that the Browns' biggest need after the first wave of free agency is a true number one wide receiver. Jerry Jeudy isn't good enough for the Browns, as they need to land a true number one option for Shedeur Sanders in 2026.

Browns biggest need is a true No. 1 WR

"A think and unreliable receiving corps needs help on all fronts," Jackson writes. "The team is hoping Jerry Jeudy can bounce back after a miserable 2025, but both size and playmaking are needed to fill out the depth chart."

The wide receiver need for the Browns couldn't be any clearer than it is now. Jeudy isn't a terrible number two and would be a great third option. But, as the uncontested top wide receiver on the roster, this WR room needs major help.

Cedric Tillman and Isaiah Bond are the other top receivers, and while they, along with a few other interesting depth receivers, are interesting options, the team desperately needs a true top option.

Landing a true number one, elite wide receiver is easier said than done. Maybe Brian Thomas Jr. could be had for their 24th overall draft pick, but even then, the Browns would have some uncertainty after his rough 2025 for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In free agency, there are a couple of interesting options that the Browns could consider adding to pair with Jeudy for Sanders, or whoever the starting quarterback is.

Jauan Jennings, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel, Christian Kirk, and Marquise Brown are a few options worth considering in free agency.

While Hill might be the most eye-catching name, he's coming off a very serious injury and is very much uncertain for the beginning of the year. The Browns might be better off landing someone like Jennings, Diggs, or Samuel.

But, if nothing else, the browns should be seriously considering drafting a wide receiver early in the 2026 NFL Draft. They need more help at the position, as it's their clear top need left after a strong first wave of free agency.
