The Cleveland Browns swung and missed on Jedrick Wills in the 2020 NFL draft, and now he's looking for a new home.
Wills' five years in Cleveland were marred by lackluster performances and injuries. The writing was on the wall that he wouldn't be back in 2025 after he was benched in 2024.
Wills has yet to land with a new team, but his doing so is inevitable. Wills is still just 26 years old and perhaps a change of scenery could do him some good, although it's highly unlikely he'll be a starter wherever he lands.
One team that could definitely use more depth at tackle is the New York Jets, which is why NFL Trade Rumors' Ethan Woodie predicted Wills would end up with Gang Green.
"Like the Jaguars, the Jets don't have much in terms of depth behind their starting duo," Woodie wrote. "Chukwuma Okorafor has flashed in the past, but he's bounced around the league in recent years. I don't know if Willis is a direct upgrade, but he would provide additional depth and compete with Okorafor for primary backup duties. New York's offensive line has been a problem for years, and the starters finally look like a good group. They can't afford to be undone by a lack of depth."
The Jets have tried to get their act together at both tackle spots in recent years with the draft selections of Olu Fashanu in 2024 and Armand Membou in 2025, and both are expected to start at left tackle and right tackle, respectively.
But those two clearly lack experience, and one injury to either one could put the Jets in a bad spot considering they don't have much depth behind them.
Okorafor is an OK option, but lest we forget he quit on the New England Patriots in 2024 after getting benched, so he's a question mark.
Granted, Wills is no sure thing, either, but he would at least offer an adequate and experienced depth option, and would do so at a cheap price.
And, who knows, maybe he'll get a chance to revive his career in New York, and if so, the Jets could use him as trade bait at the deadline.
With Wills unlikely to command much on the open market, it wouldn't hurt to bring him in and let him compete with Okorafor for the right to be New York's swing tackle behind Membou and Fashanu.
