For the past couple of seasons, Bronny James has been a fixture of the Los Angeles Lakers roster. Everyone has seen him join the Lakers as a tremendous athlete blessed with strong physical traits, just like his dad. Over those two seasons, he looked a bit smaller than most players because of his 6'2" frame, but he has made sure to improve his frame.
With the 2026-27 season coming up, it seems that James made it a point to become stronger. In the latest roster list, the Lakers detailed all the physical measurements, and it seems that James made a big improvement when it comes to adding muscle.
Bronny James adds significant muscle ahead of the 2026-27 season
For a long time, people have known that James is a positive athlete. He takes a lot from his father, including elite athleticism. However, being 6'2 means that he has to deal with all kinds of matchups, including bigger players who want to bully him with their size.
With that knowledge, James made sure to bulk up in the offseason. Among the Lakers' players, he was the player who made the most drastic change in his listed weight because he went from being 209 pounds to a whopping 223 pounds during training camp.

Of course, some people might think that he just ate too much, but looking at Bronny's pictures during training camp and preseason shows that he is stronger. It does not look like he took the unhealthy route, as he just added more functional muscle.
He is not the only one who made some big changes during the offseason, as Austin Reaves added six pounds to his weight, which can help due to the added reps he will have with the ball now that LeBron James has left for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Luka Doncic cut only two pounds from his listed weight, but he looks significantly slimmer. Since the Lakers will be relying on him to be the big superstar, slimming down was needed, and everyone is excited for it. Bronny was the latest player to make a significant shift, and it could pay off because JJ Redick sees him as part of the rotation.
