Broncos vs. Chargers Series History: When was the last time L.A. won 3 in a row over Denver?

1 hour ago 3

The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers were both playoff teams last year, but their playoff seeds were largely determined due to the fact that the Chargers won both games against their rivals.

The teams meet again on Sunday with the Chargers having a chance to get to 3-0 and have an early two-game lead over the Broncos. It would also mark the first time in nearly 15 years that the Chargers have won three games in a row over the Broncos.

Their last three-game winning streak (which became a 4-game winning streak) took place from November 2009 to January 2011. The third Chargers win in a row during that time frame came on January 2, 2011, a game the Chargers won 33-28. The Broncos' quarterback on that day was Tim Tebow, who threw two touchdown passes and ran for 94 yards, but it wasn't enough.

The Chargers were paced by Ryan Mathews, who rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns on the day.

Last season, the Chargers beat the Broncos by seven points in each of their tightly-contested games. The Chargers finished the season at 11-6 and the No. 5 seed in the AFC, while the Broncos finished 10-7 and got into the playoffs as the last team in, at No. 7.

Both teams were eliminated in the Wild Card round but each of them went into this offseason with their sights set on becoming top contenders in the AFC. Though the Broncos received a lot of attention from the media as a potential dark horse Super Bowl contender due to their defense, it has been the Chargers who have stolen that thunder and turned into that contender for the big game based on results on the field.

That is what makes Week 3's matchup between these two teams so big. The Chargers could put a good distance between themselves and the Broncos, even if it is just Week 3.

This Chargers vs Broncos game is huge . A lot at stake early in the season .

The Broncos lead the all-time series between these two teams, which dates back to 1960, 73-57-1. The game is set to kick off at 2:05 pm Mountain time, 1:05 pm Pacific time. It will be televised on CBS and Kevin Harlan will call the action along with Trent Green.
